Police activity week of 04-08-13 through 04-14-13

04-08-13 10:04 hours – Ptl. J. McGowan – Disorderly conduct
100 block Green Ave. (PWHS) – Police dispatched to the high school for illegal drugs. Upon arrival officers were met with the reporting party. Assistant Principal reported school security found a student arriving late to school. Security could smell a strong odor of burned marijuana on the offender’s person.

The offender admitted to smoking marijuana before school. The offender was charged with disorderly conduct for possessing drug paraphernalia, which consisted of a glass smoking pipe and e-z wider cigarette rolling papers. The offender was released to a parent.

04-10-13 08:04 hours – Ptl. C. Schiazza – Disorderly conduct
100 block Green Ave. – Dispatched to PWHS for a report of a student under the influence of drugs. Upon investigation the offender did admit to smoking marijuana. The offender will be mailed a citation for disorderly conduct. The offender was transported home to the custody of his grandmother.

04-10-13 20:09 hours – Ptl D. Schiazza – Theft – $50 to $200 from auto – Criminal mischief to autos
Scottdale Rd-Hoffman Park – This officer was requested by DELCOM to contact the victim, regarding her lost purse. The victim reported that at approximately 1830 hours her husband parked his vehicle in the Hoffman Park parking lot. The victim left her purse on the right front passenger seat of the vehicle. When she and her husband returned to the vehicle approximately 1915 hours they discovered the vehicle had been broken into and her purse had been stolen. Inside the purse were her check book, target gift card visa credit card, Pa operator’s license, and her key ring with vehicle and residence keys.

04-11-13 01:34 hours – Sgt. K. Kienzle – Arson-incendiary device-motor vehicle
N. Maple & E. Essex Aves. – Police responded to a vehicle fire. On arrival a fire was seen burning inside older model silver Mercury Grand Marquis. Company 19 extinguished the fire. The registration plate of the vehicle had been removed. The front of the vehicle had sustained heavy damage. An improvised incendiary device had been left burring on the floor of the right side passenger floor. A description of the driver of the Grand Marquis was given by a witness.

04-12-13 12:34 hours – Sgt. J. McCaughan – Trespassing of real property, contempt of court
Unit block E. LaCrosse Ave. – Dispatched for a domestic involving a PFA order. Located the offender in the home of his mother. The mother has an active PFA order against the offender. The offender was removed from the residence and taken into custody.

04-12-13 17:40 hours – Sgt. J. McCaughan – Fraud
Unit block E. Baltimore Ave. – Received a call for a theft in progress at the bank. The offender was attempting to pass a fraudulent check. The offender was taken into custody and will be charged appropriately.

04-12-13 23:36 hours – Ptl. C. Brown – Disorderly conduct
Unit block N. Lansdowne Ave. – Police received a report of a suspicious person in front of the Wawa store. The male observed was a known theft suspect. This officer attempted to stop the suspect and speak with him. The offender did flee police and was apprehended and transported to police headquarters. The offender will be issued a citation for disorderly conduct. The offender did agree to speak with Sgt. Donegan regarding his suspected involvement in recent thefts.

04-13-13 11:34 hours – Ptl. M. McGinnis – Burglary-forced entry-nonresidence -night
100 block N. Lansdowne Ave. – the victim reported that he used to live in an apartment on the 100 block of N. Lansdowne Avenue and has moved across the driveway to another apartment complex. The victim indicated that he still has belongings in the basement secure storage of his old building. Today he discovered that the hasp had been forcibly removed and his belongings missing. The maintenance was contacted and indicated that the door has been that way for at least two weeks and that the victims wife and child had been moving things out. The victim is aware that things were moved and was notified by his wife that the TV was missing. The victim was advised to compile a list of missing items and bring it to the police department.

04-13-13 11:26 hours – Ptl. K. McDermott – Theft- under $50 from auto
100 block Bryn Mawr Ave. – the victims reported items taken from their vehicles. Both victims were unsure if they had locked the doors of their vehicles. This officer did not observe any signs of forced entry. Victims are co-owners of both vehicles.

04-13-13 11:45 hours – Sgt. J. McCaughan – Theft-under $50 from auto
100 block Bryn Mawr Ave. – The victim reports unknown person/s entered her vehicle, as it sat unsecured and unattended in her driveway. The actor/s rifled through the vehicle but at this time the only thing known missing is loose change and dollar bills totaling approximately ten dollars.

04-13-13 13:35 hours – Sgt. J. McCaughan – Theft $50 to $200 from auto
Unit block Mansfield Rd. -The victim discovered that unknot person/s entered her vehicle as it sat unattended in her driveway. The victim is not sure if the vehicle was secured. Missing from the vehicle was a green Apple IPOD Nano 16G.

04-13-13 15:02 hours – Ptl. M. McGinnis – Disorderly conduct
200 block N. Maple Ave. – Dispatched to an attempted theft of bicycle. The vim reported he pulled in front of his residence and saw five black juveniles attempting to lift his son’s bike over the stockade fence out of his yard. He yelled and the group ran to the rear alley, got on bicycles and fled on Wycombe Avenue toward Marshall Road. Area check with negative results. A short time later the victim realized that the bicycle listed as property in this report was missing. UDPD did stop a male on a bike matching the description broadcast. The victim positively identified his bike and the actor in the theft. The offender was returned to LPD and released to his father.

04-13-13 19:49 hours – Ptl. L. Albertoli – All other vandalism
Unit block E. Stewart ave. – Police responded for a report of criminal mischief that had just occurred. Two juveniles reportedly spray painted a sidewalk. Officer checked the area but we not able to locate the actors. While investigating another incident in the area of Braddock & E. Plumstead Avenues, we made contact with three juveniles who matched the description of the actors in this case. The three juveniles have been listed as suspects in this case.

04-14-13 07:58 hours – Ptl. K. McDermott – Loitering/prowling at night
100 block Lansdowne Ct. – Responded to listed location for the attempted theft from auto. The reporting party stated that somebody attempted to gain access into his wife’s vehicle. The victim has a security camera in his driveway and it shows a w/m approximately 6′, wearing what appears to be white or light gray clothing lifting the drivers’ side door handle in an attempt to gain entry to the vehicle. The subject was unable to gain entry due to the vehicle door being locked.

04-14-13 11:42 hours – Sgt. J. McCaughan – Burglary-forced entry-residence-unknowns time
100 block Owen Ave. – Upon returning to his residence the victim discovered his home had been burglarized during his absence. The actor/s broke into his residence by entering the unlocked front porch and breaking out a locked storm window. The actor/s entered the house through what looked like a living room or den area. The victim will make a list of stolen items.
